Conquering the AP Euro Exam

AP EURO THEMES INTELLECTUAL AND CULTURAL HISTORY o Religious thought, scientific development, changes in education and communications, trends in literature and the arts. POLITICAL & DIPLOMATIC HISTORY o Rise and functioning of modern European states (colonialism, imperialism, decolonization, global interdependence), extension and limitation of rights and liberties, nationalism, reforms, revolutions, wars and civil conflict. SOCIAL & ECONOMIC HISTORY o Agriculture, urbanization, industrialization, distribution of wealth, poverty, sanitation and health care practices, diet and disease, gender roles, competition and interdependence in national and global markets.

AP EURO EXAM o Covers o 3 hours, 5 minutes in length o 55-minute multiple choice section (80 questions) o 130 minute free-response section (1 document based, 2 themed essays) o DBQ=mandatory 15 min reading period, 45 min writing period o CHANGE: NO PENALTY FOR INCORRECT ANSWERS THIS YEAR! THIS MEANS ALWAYS TAKE A SHOT AT THE QUESTION!

AP EURO EXAM GRADING o Within the free-response section, the DBQ is weighted 45% and the 2 thematic essays are 55% o For the total exam score, the free-response section is 50% and the multiple choice is 50% o AP Exam totals 180 points o Generally need 122+ for a 5, 103+ for a 4, 70+ for a 3

MASTER THE DBQ! o AP EXAM = 180 points o Multiple Choice = 90, Free-Response = 90 o DBQ is scored 0-9, for every point you multiply by 4.5 For FRQ every point multiply by 2.75 o If you score an 8 on the DBQ, you earn a 36 o With approximately 70pts needed for a passing 3, you will have earned over half of what you need to pass already !
