2 Standard I Apply the four interconnected dimensions of historical thinking to the Essential Standard for World History in order to understand the creation and development of societies/civilizations/nations over time. This standard is about skills: reading maps, charts, graphs, political cartoons, primary/secondary sources, timelines, etc.

3 Standard II Analyze ancient civilizations and empires in terms of their development, growth and lasting impact. Unit 1, 2, & 3 – Ancient Civilization – Greece and Rome – Islam and Africa

4 Standard III & IV Understand how conflict and innovation influenced political, religious, economic and social changes in medieval civilizations. Unit 4 -- Medieval

5 Standard V Analyze exploration and expansion in terms of its motivations and impact. Unit 5 – Renaissance, Reformation & Exploration

6 Standard VI Understand the Age of Revolutions and Rebellions Unit 6 & 7 – Scientific Rev., Enlightenment, Revolutionary era (English, American, & French) – Industrial & Nationalistic Revolutions & Imperialism

7 Standard VII Understand how national, regional, and ethnic interests have contributed to conflict among groups and nations in the modern era. Unit 8 & 9 – WWI, Roaring 20s, Great Depression – Totalitarian Gov., WWII

8 Standard VIII Analyze global interdependence and shifts in power in terms of political, economic, social and environmental changes and conflicts since the last half of the twentieth century. Unit 9 and Unit 10 WWII Cold War, Religious/Ethnic Conflicts, & Contemporary Issues

Focus your study on: Unit 1 – Ancient civilizations – Geography and its impact on the development of civilization – Neolithic Revolution, Code of Hammurabi – Han and Qin dynasties – influence on development of Chinese culture Unit 2 – Greece and Rome – their government & culture and influence on today Unit 8 – WWI & Great Depression--- causes and effects – Causes of the WWWI; Treaty of Versailles – how it laid the foundation for WWII? Unit 9 – Totalitarian Gov. & WWII – causes and effects Unit 10 – Cold War, Decolonization, Current world issues – Maintain balance of power, set foreign policy for 20 th C, problems that world faces today

11 Structure of the Test Many of the items will require you to process factual content as you read, interpret, and/or analyze stimulus material, including maps, graphs, and excerpts of primary and secondary-source documents. 43 Questions total 41 Multiple Choice 2 Constructed Response – Likely a broad topic in which you will get to pick something to focus on – Come from the 20 th century – But could be analyzing a primary source – 95% of the time the answer is in the source!!!

12 Structure of the Test Multiple Choice No Substitute for Preparation Answer Every Question No Pattern Look for Key Vocabulary and Clues Mostly reading primary sources and answering questions about those sources Constructed Response Answer ALL parts of the Question – Give 2 examples >> GIVE 2 examples! – Gives you topic to focus on >> Write about the topic!! Provide specific examples/answers to the questions Elaborate >> DO NOT simply list things
