Why it’s Important Future generations will benefit from us. You use services in this community, so you must be counted here. In order for the state to receive this the census must be filled out.
How will it affect me? 10 for 10 in 2010 It will only take 10 minutes to fill out the 10 questions for the 2010 Census. Look for it in March Funds will go to: Hospitals Job training centers Schools Senior centers Roads, bridges, tunnels and other public-works projects Emergency services Flood protection
It’s Completely Confidential Filling the Census out is required by law, however, the information remains completely confidential. If any information is disclosed by Census workers, there is a $250,000 fine and a 5 year prison sentence. Not even the U.S. President can view the information.
It’s Completely Confidential All information remains confidential for 72 years. What if I have more than 3 people who are not related living together? The Census is a Federal program that is not connected to local ordinances. You will not incriminate yourselves. One door. One form. The completed form is mailed back. Remind your parents not to include you on their form.
Residence Halls and Greek Houses Residence Halls, Sororities and Fraternities have a separate plan. A Census representative will come in person to hand out forms to each individual. The forms are then picked up by Census workers.

If you checked the wrong box, just draw a line through it and mark the correct box for the question. If the error is in a write- in box, carefully draw a line through the incorrect entry and write the correct information as close as possible to the entry.
Commonly Asked Questions What if I don’t have a permanent address? You should be counted where you live and sleep most of the time. These residence rules serve as the guiding principle for the census, whether you are living with relatives because of a natural disaster or foreclosure, or are a college student living away from home, or a soldier living on a military base. What if I did not receive my form? Go to official Census Questionnaire Assistance Center to pick up a new form.
