Parametric Products in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Curriculum Since early 1990s: –Parametric products are extensively used throughout the curriculum both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. –Software products include primarily ProE and ProMechanica. –ProE and ProMechanica are installed in all 25 computers in the MIE computing lab center. It is also installed in about 50 of our college-run computers. –It is the most widely used software by students in all their design related activities

ProE and ProMechanica in MIE COURSES COURSES: –MIE113: Freshmen-level Introduction to Design –MIE213: Sophomore-level Concept and Configuration Design –MIE313: Junior-level Parametric Design –MIE375: Junior-level Design for Manufacturing –MIE413: Senior-level Design of Systems –MIE415: Senior Design Elective Course –MIE418: Engineering Kinematics Course –MIE497A: Assistive Technology Course –MIE597O: Information Engineering –MIE605: Finite Element Course –MIE Honors Projects & Independent Study Projects –MIE Open House & Student Orientation

Sample Project: Mechanical Analysis of a 1992 Honda Accord Door Handle using ProE and ProMechanica Students: Marc Fahlbeck, Jesse Goyette, & Aaron Dollar

Sample Project: Redesign of a L-Brace of a Wheelchair using ProE and ProMechanica Students: Richard Yazbeck, George Matsumoto & Nicole Veilleux

A PTC-UMASS collaborative educational community GOAL: –ProE to Computer-Aided Mechanical Design like Xerox to photocopying Virtual Design Classroom Other Parametric products such as Windchill Information Technology Collaboration Participation in PTC sponsored design contests Improved curriculum-level integration Technology transfer –Partnership with other UMASS campuses –Partnership with k-12 teachers in training Resources to facilitate easy prototyping
