2 Problem Statement Overview ●Lack of professional development opportunities for facilitators to increase “Teacher Presence” in the k-12 blended learning environment. ●Lack of tools and resources that assist facilitators in increasing their levels of “Teacher Presence” in accordance with the CoI Framework.

3 Community of Inquiry (CoI) Overview Social Presence The ability of participants in a community of inquiry to project themselves socially and emotionally as “real” people (i.e. their full personality through the medium of communication being used. Cognitive Presence The extent to which learners are able to construct and confirm meaning through sustained reflection and discourse in a critical community of inquiry. Teacher Presence The design, facilitation, and direction of cognitive and social processes for the purpose of realizing personally meaningful and educationally worthwhile learning outcomes.

4 Leaner Analysis General Characteristics ● Teachers at Dixie M. Hollins High School ● 70% female - 30% male ● 18-65 years old ● Diverse educational background ● Read and comprehend proficiently ● One week to 30 years of work experience. Specific Characteristics ● Familiar with the general terms and concepts in association with online instruction in the k-12 classroom in Pinellas County. ● Understand general principles of online instruction. ● Understand how to create collaborative efforts that ensure overall student success within each respective academic environment throughout Pinellas County.

5 Leaner Analysis Learner Entry Knowledge ●Learners will have generalized prerequisite knowledge including, but not limited to the following: o Familiarity with the general terms and concepts in association with online instruction in the k-12 classroom in Pinellas County. (e.g. GradPoint, NovaNet, Virtual School, Credit Recovery etc. ) o General principles of online instruction. (e.g. how to survive in an online learning environment) o How to create collaborative efforts that ensure overall student success within each respective academic environment throughout Pinellas County.

6 Contextual Analysis ORIENTING CONTEXT ● Most of the learners are veteran teachers who feel that taking professional development for something that they have already done effectively for the last 8 years is of no use and could not greatly affect learning outcomes. ● Thoughts on professional development throughout the district is generally unpleasant ENVIRONMENT ● Training sessions will take place  School Auditorium  3 GradPoint Computer Labs throughout participating list of schools. ● Materials that will be use for the training will include:  Desktop Computers,  Presentation Remote,  Projector/Screen-with necessary RGB Cord and audio hook-up,  Audio Equipment-with necessary auxiliary cables,  White Board/Markers, and a  Smart Board- with whiteboard software extension cable.

7 Task Analysis Form of Task Analysis: Procedural Analysis I.Teacher Presence A.Design & Organization 1.The instructor clearly communicates importance of course topics. 2.The instructor clearly communicates important course goals. 3.The instructor provides clear instructions on how to participate in course learning activities. 4.The instructor clearly communicates important due dates/time frames for learning activities.

8 Objectives, Sequencing & Instructional Strategies 1.The learner will be able to compose a 2 - 3 sentence statement explaining the importance of the course topic and goals. 2.The learner will be able to organize activities in an instructional unit with established due dates that are reasonable to course load.. 3.The learner will be able to develop a plan for a guided whole group discussion. 4.The learner will be able to prepare one small group collaboration activity to engage students. 5.The learner will be able to compose a constructive feedback statement to be given in a timely fashion.

9 Instructional Unit Sample 1.The learner will be able to compose a 2 - 3 sentence statement explaining the importance of the course topic and goals. Initial Presentation: The instructor will use the CoI powerpoint on Lesson Introductions which will include the 1-Hook/Engage, 2-Relate, and 3-Connect strategy, the learners will be encouraged to take notes. Generative Strategy: After the powerpoint presentation, the learners will practice the 1-2-3 strategy by using a set of flashcards.
