EDGE™ Project Status Update P09141 – Thermal Heater Control System Anthony Berwin (Mechanical Engineer)

EDGE™ Project Status Update Project Name –Thermal Heater Control System Project Number –P09141 Project Family –ITT Track –Aerospace Systems and Technology Start Term –Winter (Tentative) End Term –Spring (Tentative)

EDGE™ Project Status Update Faculty Guide –TBD Faculty Consultant –TBD Faculty Consultant –TBD Primary Customer –Chuck Moon, ITT Corporation, Space Systems Division, Unconfirmed

EDGE™ Phase 0: Planning Mission Statement Product Description /Project Overview The product is a scalable prototype of a Thermal Heater Control System that will be present in future satellite imaging systems. The system will be based on the existing Hybrid Heater Controller (HHC). The product will be designed to achieve a higher level of performance that could reduce overall weight and power consumption of the satellite. Key Business Goals/Project Deliverables The primary business goals of this product are to Demonstrate an enhancement to ITT’s current distributed, autonomous thermal control system. Create a more competitive thermal control system that is lightweight, scalable, modular, and power efficient.

EDGE™ Phase 0: Planning Mission Statement Primary Market /Project Opportunities The primary market for this prototype is the ITT Space Systems Division. Secondary Market /Project Opportunities Secondary markets for this prototype may include groups involved in satellite imaging applications. Stakeholders Stakeholders in the design of our product include the following: ITT Space Systems Division RIT’s College of Engineering

EDGE™ Phase 1: Concept Development Identify Customer Needs - Interviews Primary Customer(s) Plan to interview Chuck Moon during the week of April 13. The interview will be in person or over the phone. The information from the interview will be integrated into the project status, mission statement and customer needs. Other Stakeholder(s) Plan to interview an RIT professor who is interested in the project during the week of April 13. The information from the interview will be posted online and integrated into the project status and mission statement. Past Senior Design Team(s) TBD

EDGE™ Phase 1: Concept Development Identify Customer Needs - Interpret Needs Statements: 1. Lightweight 2. Scalable 3. Modular 4. Power efficient 5. Thermally stabilize/enable critical optical subsystems 6. Configurable/adjustable during orbit 7. Durable 8. Reliable 9. Safe 10. Inexpensive
