4 Entity Descriptions Customer: Any individual who either makes a reservation or rental agreement with University Car Rental Reservation: A record of non-binding agreement between University Car Rental and a CUSTOMER to provide a CAR of a particular type, at a certain LOCATION for a defined period of time. Rental: A record of an open agreement between University Car Rental and a CUSTOMER to take and return a CAR for a fee. Car: A vehicle that University Car Rental company controls and intends to RENT to CUSTOMERS Location: A site where University Car Rental may keep and rent CARS Customer: Any individual who either makes a reservation or rental agreement with University Car Rental Reservation: A record of non-binding agreement between University Car Rental and a CUSTOMER to provide a CAR of a particular type, at a certain LOCATION for a defined period of time. 5 Overview RENTAL RESERVATION VEHICLE
A reservation is not required for a rental RENTAL RESERVATION A Reservation may or may not be one or many rentals BUSINESS RULES: A customer may reserve one or more cars of particular type. Customer may make more than one reservation. Customer history is kept indefinitely. Considered a customer only at the time of rental A car can only have one driver. A car's rate may not match the rental rate. Car type is guaranteed or customer is upgraded. Pricing is based on car type. Car types compact, subcompact, full-sized are comprised of many makes and models. A reservation may not turn into a rental. Reservations can be changed and therefore updateable. Reservation may be cancelled. A car type may be specified in one or more reservations. A reservation has only one car type. Pick-up and Drop-off locations may be different. Valid credit card is required to reserve a car. Driver information is not required to make a reservation. We keep track of how the reservation came in (phone, kiosk, fax, web, etc.) A car may be in service, rented, or available in a parking space on site A rental may or may not be the result of a reservation. For a car to be rented it must be in service and onsite in one and only one parking space. If the reserved car type is not available at time of rental, customer pays the reserved rate for upgrade A parking space has only one car at a time. Parking space identifiers are not unique across sites. A parking space may be empty. A customer may pick-up or drop-off a car at a different site. A customer may return the car at a different time than stated. A Reservation reserves a rate VEHICLE A vehicle is available for only one rental at a time
