Geographical Information System By: Joey Porter Daniel Watson

G.I.S. G.I.S stands for geographic information system. The G.I.S. is mostly for helping people see and understand geographic information and situations One popular thing they use is a topographical map

Topographical maps A topographical map is a map characterized by large scale detail They show both natural and man made items These maps show elevation These maps use contour lines to show the elevation

FEMA FEMA used G.I.S. for hurricane Rita. The G.I.S. was able to map the hurricanes location and movements With the use of G.I.S. FEMA could evacuate the people in these locations safely

Katrina After hurricane Katrina, G.I.S. was able to show what and how it happened G.I.S. mapped the whole path of the hurricane With the mapping they figured out what they should have done to have a better outcome Now they know what to do next time

Japans nuclear problems in 2011 In 2011 the Japanesse government made a safe zone away from a nuclear reactor because they were having problems with it. But G.I.S. said that the safe zone was too close to the reactor Using all the G.I.S. information and maps, they figured out the true safe zone
