 1. Research and Select appropriate pathways for post secondary education  2. Understand the application process for universities (OUAC) The Goals of the Assembly are to Successfully Inform and Enable Grade Twelve Students to:

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Check your O.S.S.D. requirements:  Credit Count (30 credits: 18 Compulsory and 12 optional selections)  Community Involvement (40 Hrs)  OSSLT/OLC4O0 (Literacy Test or Course) Locate your O.E.N. Ontario Education Number for College applications (OCAS)

New Transcript Information  Credits taken outside Peel and Dufferin Peel will be indicated on your transcript by noting the institution where the credit was taken.  Credits taken at a Private School will be indicated on your transcript.

Research and Select Appropriate Pathways for Post Secondary Education  Consult Resources in Student Services such as post secondary calendars and resources  Use or  Consult Ontario’s University website  Clarify your research with your guidance counsellor

Understand the application process for both Colleges (OCAS) and Universities (OUAC) Both OCAS and OUAC are applied to by online applications You will need access to a computer for this process either at home or at school.

Information You Will Need Before Starting Your Application  A valid account to communicate with the application centre. (Try not to use accounts with odd names like whatever.ca or  Your address and postal code  Your PIN number  Credit Card or other information to pay for the application.

OUAC Demonstration   Go to “Undergraduate Applications”  Select “Ontario Secondary School Students” (OUAC 101)

OCAS Demonstration   Select “Discover Ontario Colleges”  Choose “Find a College Program”  After your research, record the programs and colleges that interest you on your handout.  Select “Apply to College”  Choose “Create a User Account”  Add your program choices to your online application

Create a BACKUP PLAN  Plan for your primary destination/program of choice, but have a backup plan ready. Your backup plan(s) may be to:  Apply to a different university and/or college  Apply to different programs of study  Consider an apprenticeship program  Return to NPSS for an additional semester or year. (Pick courses this year for next year to ensure a spot for you at North Park!)

Frequently Asked Questions 1. What are the application deadlines? OUAC: By January 12, OCAS: By February 1, 2011.

Frequently Asked Questions 2. Is there a fee for my application? Yes! OUAC: $120 for 3 choices and $40 for each additional choice OCAS: $95 for 5 choices with a maximum of 3 at any one college.

Frequently Asked Questions 3. How do I pay for my selections? Either by: a) Credit Card online (best option as processed immediately) b) Telephone with Credit Card (ok option as processed fairly quickly)

Frequently Asked Questions c) By Money Order or Certified Cheque (least preferable option as your application will not be processed for several days, causing you to miss the application deadline)

Frequently Asked Questions  Can I change my mind about my program or destination? Yes! But be aware that college application changes are processed, but are considered on a first come first served basis and only until programs are filled/wait lists established. OCAS will accept program changes up until end of April 2011.

Frequently Asked Questions University and university program changes are processed. OUAC will accept program changes up until February 4 th, 2011 for consideration for early CONDITIONAL acceptance. This is not a deadline date. Changes will be accepted at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions  Where do I get my O.E.N. for my College application? It is located on the top right side of your Student Status Sheet! Make an appointment with your counsellor for a status sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions  Where do I get my P.I.N. for my University application? Listen to the announcements. In the commons during period 1, date TBA.  Remember to WRITE IT DOWN to prevent problems if you lose it!

Frequently Asked Questions  How will I know if I am accepted anywhere?  OUAC: online will have status for acceptance. Check regularly  Universities will mail you a letter stating conditional acceptance is offered.  Conditional means if your marks stay the same or increase! Even a drop of 0.1% could result in your offer being withdrawn.

A Concluding Thought… Don’t Procrastinate! The online application sites often are overloaded and crash during the last few days before the deadlines…Don’t wait! Start and complete your application as soon as possible! Suggested Deadline: Friday December 17 th.
