The University and College Application Process

2 What are my goals and expectations in terms of going to university or college?
How will I pay for tuition? Living expenses? Etc. What are my job prospects upon graduation? I have an IEP. How will get help at university/college? Does the program I’m applying to have special requirements for admission? How competitive is the program? (How many apply? How many get accepted? What grades are required?) Where will a feel most comfortable? At a large university/college or a smaller one? Somewhere close to home or far away? What residence or other accommodations are available? Important Questions

4 Where to Start? TO DO LIST
Research your options using e!NFO and individual universities’ websites. Attend the Ontario University Fair. Attend the in-school info. sessions. Many universities visit TSS. Make a list of the programs you’re interested in (note the OUAC code) Get your confidential PIN from Jeff/Hugh in mid-Nov. Apply online by January 17, 2018 (FEE = $150 for up to 3 programs + $50 for each additional choice) Note: This is for Ontario universities. Oct. – Start researching programs (attend info. sessions, check out calendars, online info.) Apply online well before Jan. 17 deadline. Jan. 17 – Applic. Deadline Late May – Expect an admission response by this point Early June – Earliest you will have to respond to an offer of admission. Dates

Your TRANSCRIPT is up to date and accurate (staff advisor mtg.). Don’t forget you need 40 hours of community service! You have or are taking the necessary courses to graduate AND to get into the program of your choice. Certain programs have specific high school credit requirements. Universities look at Semester One final marks and Semester Two mid-term grades. You attend the university info. sessions and/or visit the campus. You will be spending big $ and several years at this institution … make sure it’s the right fit for you. You apply for scholarships and awards!!! We routinely see graduates head out of province for university. In this case you will need to apply to the university directly. Deadlines vary. The key is to start planning early. You need to be proactive. Out of province/country

The application process is similar to that of university. However YOU DO NOT need a PIN number. You can go on the OCAS website and create an account. Do your research! Check out websites, calendars (main office), info. sessions. Make sure your transcript is up-to-date and accurate. To Do List

13 Important Dates Early October - Online application opens
November - Colleges begin receiving applications February 1, 2018: Equal Consideration Date Apply on or before this date in order to receive equal consideration for admission to programs starting the following fall. After this date, colleges consider applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until programs are full. Note that applications to Highly Competitive Programs must be received by this date in order to be considered. As these programs receive a high volume of applicants, all seats may be filled by February 1. Feb. 1 is also the earliest offer date. May 1, 2018: Deadline to Confirm Offers of Admission Applicants must confirm their acceptance of an offer of admission by this date. Log in to your ontariocolleges.ca account to confirm your offer. Mid June: Tuition Deposit Due at the Colleges Important Dates
