OMG Business Ecology Initiative BEI Premise:  IT as simply a support organization is becoming non-competitive and obsolete  IT must evolve to be an integrated partner with business.  Focused on minimizing waste and optimizing capability across business processes  IT needs to provide business focus on sustainability, business process and optimization  Replace CIO with BEO (Business Ecology Officer)

OMG Business Ecology Initiative Vision:  OMG Business Ecology Initiative (BEI) brings together customers and vendors committed to helping IT create sustainable, open business processes Mission Statement:  Ensure message of BE is well communicated and integral to OMG Programs (BPM-C / SOA-C, GCIO)  Publish examples of sustainable business processes  Communicate successful client BE initiatives  Help Organizations adopt Business Ecology and Implement Actionable Architecture concepts

OMG and BE  SOA-C is about capturing business processes and governing the extension of existing processes to new capabilities  BPM-C is about optimizing existing processes, finding opportunities for reuse and focusing efforts on business targets  GCIO is about finding economies in processes throughout the business that can minimize resource usage without downgrading value or efficiency  OMG standards are about amortizing costs over a larger marketplace, minimize systems interoperability and portability costs to give the business flexibility and agility

What is an Actionable Architecture  Actionable Architecture:  Output of business process analysis  Includes decisions that maximize value and minimize waste  Examples:  Creation, automation or termination of a business process  Movement of an automated process to the public cloud, private cloud, or in-house computing utility  Initiating governance of a process -- computing-related or not -- to lean and/or green that process  Identification of opportunities to minimize waste (of people, computing resources, electricity, water, paper, etc.)  Reuse of existing processes in new ways to support a new business capability
