This Week in World History  Industrial Revolution  Aim  to gather information from MULTIPLE sources in order to create a journal entry that will reflect the life of an individual during the Industrial Revolution.  Bid Idea  One of the goals of this World History course is to teach empathy. When you can empathize with people, you learn to understand them. Let’s work to understand the life of a factory worker, a woman, or a young child during the Industrial Revolution. Use your time wisely. The task at the end of this PPT will be due at the conclusion of Thursday’s class.  Homework  Have fun on your trip!!!

Research Directions : Look-up the term “Industrial Revolution” and write down definitions of it from 3 different sources: Source (Website)Definition After finding 3 definitions (above), define the Industrial Revolution in your own words.

Industrial Revolution  Answers in Notebook 1.Explain the impact that Richard Arkwright had on the industrial revolution. 2.Why were coal and iron ore important to the industrial revolution (you may need to look this up online)? 3.Explain how steam engines evolved (Cradle of Transformation). 4.How did the work place (the actual location) change due to the industrial revolution (Cradle of Transformation)? 5.Cite AT LEAST 5 reasons that the new workplace was known as a “house of horrors” (HLF). 6.Create a “pyramid” that displays the hierarchy of society during the industrial revolution (RGR). 7.Cite MULTIPLE pieces of information to explain what is the “Luddite” movement was. Why did it happen? 8.Was the Factory Act of 1832 or 1853 more beneficial? 9.How was the Russian Revolution different from what was happening in England (WR)? 10. Explain 4 things that the second Industrial Revolution improved! When you are done, you must get your answers checked by your teacher! You must do this before moving on!

Additional Research (if you have time)  Look up a reading or a video or your own that will help you understand the life of an individual during the Industrial Revolution.  TAKE NOTES  Some decent resources: History Channel, AboutHistory, and YouTube.

You must include the following information as you write: 1.The country where you live. 2.Your age. 3.The atmosphere that you walk around in on a daily basis (think about how the Industrial Revolution impacted the environment). 4.Where you work- What does it look like? Sound like? The overall working conditions… 5.How many hours a day you work. How many days a week you work. 6.Your thoughts on how the Industrial Revolution has impacted different people (factory owners, families, your mother/father). 7.Your plans (or not) to join the revolt against the owners of factories. Explain why or why not.
