This should be worth the same as a SMART goal grade!

4 Monday in World History!
Aim  scholars will evaluate the life of female Japanese silk factory workers during the late 19th century. Big Idea  The Industrial Revolution changed the way products were made, where people lived, and how people worked. This era of the advancement of technology and production led to the “development” of many societies all throughout the Western world to begin with. Today, we are going to learn about how the Industrial Revolution impacted Japan about 100 years after it began in England. Homework  Familiarize yourself with Glogster.com!

What was the Industrial Revolution all about? What were the costs and benefits of the Industrial Revolution to society?

6 Background Essay I will read it aloud.

8 Document Analysis Let’s complete the first document together.

Label the left side benefits and the right side costs. Place evidence from the documents we have completed in both sides of the T-chart. Push yourself!

11 Tuesday in World History!
Aim  scholars will find reasons to support their evaluation of the work of female Japanese silk factory workers during the late 19th century. Big Idea  How many hours did you “work” yesterday? How does that compare to the workday of the average American (8 hours)? How does it compare to the workday of the average female Japanese mill worker (13-14 hours)? What can we infer about how working conditions and expectations have changed over time? What about in different parts of the world? Homework  Complete DBQ packet, T-chart with evidence from both documents, and bring headphones!

How did the shift from making products by “man power” to “machine power” change mankind? How is the Industrial Revolution still evident in the world today? Why were coal and steam so essential to the development of societies? Play 4:25 to 10:00

13 Document Analysis Complete the documents by annotating and answering the questions. If you have any questions, ask the teacher.

14 Bucketing! Do the bucketing page by adding documents to the “costs” and “benefits” buckets. Then, identify how you will answer the question: did the costs outweigh the benefits? Place your three reasons in the buckets.
