I. Examples I bought a magazine. The title of it is “Tiep thi & Gia dinh”.  I bought a magazine, the title of which is “Tiep thi & Gia dinh”.

II. Usage: Use whose + Noun when talking about sth belonging to a person. –Ex: Stevenson is an architect. Her designs have won international award.  Stevenson whose designs have won international award is an architect.

Use who + Noun when talking about things, especially about towns, countries, organizations. –Ex: We need to learn from companies. Their trading is more healthy than our own. => We need to learn from companies whose trading is more healthy than our own.

Can use whose in both defining and non-defining relative clauses –Ex: Neil Adams, whose parents are both teachers, won first prize in the competition. I know that girl whose bicycle was stolen yesterday evening.

II. Exercises A. Rewrite the answers in the following exchanges, using who or whose. You may need to add commas where necessary. Then practise with your partner. 1.A: Do you know that woman? B: She’s a teacher. Her house is in my neighborhood. 2.A: Who invented the radio? B: It’s Marconi. He invented the radio. 3.A: What do you know about Singapore? B: It’s an Asian country. Its economy grows steadily.

4. A: Have you heard of Shenzhen? B: Yes. It is a city with rapid growth and modernization. Its population is 7 million. 5. A: Who caused the accident? B: It was Lam. He caused the accident. Not Minh. 6. A: Do you know Lan? B: Yes. She is my classmate. I know her sister, too.

B. Look at each question and answer, and write the answers in a sentence with It + be + a relative clause. Then practise with your partner. Example: Who invented the radio?
