2 Adjective Clauses A clause is a group of words containing a subject and a verb. What is an adjective clause ? An adjective is a word that describes, identifies or gives further information about a noun. What is an adjective clause ? An adjective clause is a clause that describes, identifies or gives further information about a noun.

3 Thomas Prime 5 – Unit 2 Adjective Clauses I thanked the woman. She helped me. I thanked the woman who helped me. I thanked the woman that helped me. Who or that are used for people. Who or that replace the subject.

4 Thomas Prime 5 – Unit 2 Adjective Clauses Who, whom or that are used for people. Who, whom or that replace the object. The girl was Jane. I saw her at the party. The girl who I saw at the party was Jane. The girl whom I saw at the party was Jane. The girl that I saw at the party was Jane. The girl I saw at the party was Jane. Here, the relative pronoun can be ommitted.

After prepositions, use whom (people) and which (things). She is the girl I told you about. The meeting was nice. I went to it. The meeting to which I went was nice. The meeting which/that I went to was nice. The meeting I went to was nice.

The building where he lives is very old. Which can be used if the preposition is kept. The building in which he lives is very old.

I’ll never forget the day when I met you. Which can be used if the preposition is kept. I’ll never forget the day on which I met you.

Combine the pairs of sentences, using one of them as an adjective clause. She is the woman who/whom/that/--- we talked about yesterday. He is from the city in which I was born.
