The Lesson Planner & Gradebook Connection Lesson Planner Defines Structure for Gradebook Gradebook stores student-level scores

Grading Calculation Setup in Lesson Planner Clicking a task will open a preferences window where basic setup is done to determine how Gradebook will calculate student grades. “Use Weighting on Groups” will take a weight set on groups into calculation Example: Tests 40%, Daily Work 50%, Participation 10% If not checked, multiple groups may be created, but they will be purely organizational. “Use Each Score’s Percent Value” will average percentages rather than points when determining grade. The curve (grading scale) will be used to convert student’s overall percentage into a grade. If not selected, the gradebook’s yellow area will be blank.

Organizational Setup in Lesson Planner Groups are then created. Minimum of 1 group. Multiple groups may be created if desired. Groups link assignments to particular grading tasks (the assignments “count towards” a particular overall grade). Hide from Portal- portal contacts will not see data in this group (but will see score’s overall impact Drop Lowest Score– will take the lowest score from this point on out of calculation for each student. Should be done at the beginning of a term.

Common Group Setups in Lesson Planner Organized Groups (Use Weighting on Groups not checked, multiple groups defined) Weighted Groups (Use Weighting on Groups set, multiple groups defined—each with a weight) 1 large group for all assignments

Creating Assignments & Activities Assignment- an item done by students with points possible and a due date that counts towards a particular grade. Activity-a non-scored item (no points possible, no due date) for informational purposes.

Grading Scale on an Assignment? The Score Group field is an option for teachers who wish to enter in grades rather than points. If a scale is selected and a score (grade) from the scale is entered for the student, it calculates as the minimum percent for that score times the points possible. For example, if this scale was selected for a 50 point assignment, entering a “B” for a student would be the equivalent of entering 40 points (.8x50)

Gradebook: Adding Assignments, Editing Assignments, Mass Scoring Options Right clicking on the gray area at the top of Gradebook will allow a user to: Create a new assignment Edit the assignment they clicked on. Clear All Scores (erase all scores) Fill Empty– those who do not have a score receive the teacher-selected value Overwrite-forces all scores to the teacher-selected value.

Entering Student Scores & Comments Once assignments are created in Lesson Planner or in Gradebook, student scores may be entered. Right clicking a cell will open a window for codes and comments: M-missing (counts as 0) L-late work I-incomplete X-exempt C-Cheated (counts as 0) Comments are visible in the Portal. Use wisely. Save often.

Posting Scores Posting scores from the Gradebook (when the grading window is open) may be done by right clicking in the green area and selecting either Post Grades OR Post Grades to other task (for mid-term, weekly eligibility or other “snapshot” grades)
