Walk+Roll Peel: Interactive Online Mapping & Planning Tools Health Promotion Ontario 2014 Annual Conference Health e-Connections: Innovative Technologies in Health Promotion Erica Duque, Active Transportation Planner, Public Works, Region of Peel Catherine Sim, Health Promoter, Public Health, Region of Peel September 25, 2014

Our Reality in Peel: In 2011, 54 per cent of all daily trips in Peel were 7KM or less. ~ 1.4 Million daily trips were 7KM or less In 2011, 18 per cent of all daily trips in Peel were 2KM or less ~ 500K daily trips were 2KM or less

Our Reality in Peel Schools:  Only 33% of children and youth walk to school  67% live within 2 km of their school  More than 90% of children have access to a bicycle, yet fewer than 5% cycle to school

Our Approach:

Peel Trails Map The Peel Trails Map helps residents plan active routes throughout Peel Region according to supporting infrastructure and highlights 6 different types of trails and local landmarks.

School Trip Planner Tool The School Trip Planner Tool allows the school community to estimate how long it would take to walk or bike to a nearby Peel school. The following features will be demonstrated: – Accessing the School Trip Planner Tool – Finding walkable/bikeable distances by school and address – Finding what’s around a given address – Creating a route and estimating time – Calculating Greenhouse Gas Emissions
