Craigburn Primary School

The Come Out opening day focussed on focus on the Arts and the environment. Classes planned musical and dance performances linked with Aboriginal perspectives and environmental themes.

Craigburn Primary School Other activities included using the environment to create games to play and using different parts of the school site for children to perform their activities. The Craigburn school site has lots of trees and shrubs. These led to many exciting options for students.

Craigburn Primary School Classes also prepared visual art displays and clay animation presentations around ‘The Universal Story’ theme. All classes presented their work / performances a few times across the day and they became audiences for other performances. Some classes had interactive audience activities.

Craigburn Primary School The day began with students in a parade on the main school playground. Parade music was performed on non- traditional instruments such as rubbish bins, chairs, agricultural pipe and so on. Lunch was shared with cross age groupings.

Elizabeth Downs Primary School

Our staff has been exploring the properties of paper with children and have created some fantastic works of art. We shared techniques and examples with all staff at a staff meeting and created a book with technique ideas to support them. A whole school exhibition (Play Group to Year 7) including 280 children was held.

Hamilton Secondary College Disability Unit Our school is a small school of about thirty eight students, ranging from some students with mild disabilities to students in wheel chairs with severe and multiple disabilities.

Hamilton Secondary College Disability Unit We made a temporary play ground with giant cardboard boxes and various fabrics and materials. Our play ground was decorated by the students using paper ideas form ‘Off the Wall’ and ‘The Universal Story’. The tunnels and mazes were big enough for wheel chairs.

Hamilton Secondary College Disability Unit On May 8 th caregivers, families and invited guests were invited to celebrate the day of fun, play and games. The day included some organised play activities, clowns, juggling and face painting. The program was sent to parents and community members.

Lonsdale Heights CPC-7 School

Lonsdale Heights CPC-7 School the plans … We will be linking the opening idea, Play Ground, and the Come Out theme, ‘Once upon a time’ to create a whole school experience. The plan is to have children walk with their banners to the local community centre and use the grounds for a shared morning tea, games, sport, skateboarding and play on the playground.

Lonsdale Heights CPC-7 School the plans … During the children’s play we will be filming a story created by the whole school in parts. Each class will write a piece of the story. We will begin the media presentation with a recognition of our land by our Aboriginal Education Worker. The story will then be narrated and acted out as it is recorded by media to be showcased later to the community at an assembly.

Lonsdale Heights CPC-7 School Due to wet weather the school was unable to follow through with their original idea. They met in the gym as a whole school and read the story that they whole school has been putting together. This story was a huge success, bringing together creative imagination and school virtues. It is being made into a media presentation. The whole school also danced the hokey pokey together.

Magill Junior Primary School

Magill Junior Primary School Play Ground On Tues May 8th, all Magill Junior Primary School children were involved in a morning of 'old fashioned' games. Grandparents and 'special visitors' were invited. Each class set up an activity and then all twelve classes rotated through a sequence of activities and games including egg and spoon races, sack races, spinning hula hoops and so on.

Magill Junior Primary School Some classes worked on a Past Games and Toys topic and prepared for Play Ground day by interviewing an adult, or researching games of the past. The Junior Primary choir sang the Play Ground song, which was beautiful. Grandparents and parents loved the day and the weather was perfect.

Magill Junior Primary School other Come Out activities All classes attended 'Hickory Dickory Dock‘. For ‘Off the Wall’ each class will set up a display of paper works that have been developed as a result of using random verbs provided by artist, Roy Ananda as a starting point. Each class will choose their own interpretation of the ‘Universal Story' to follow through on class based activities during the term. During Week 1 of Term 3 eight classes will work with artist Audrey Emery on a perspective activity relating to the theme of 'Universal Story’.

Port Vincent Primary School

The school got involved with the Come Out Power Guernsey Competition as part of the Arts and Health and PE programs. There were whole school discussions about the colours to be used, types of designs and the impact different designs would have on players and followers.

Port Vincent Primary School Reproducing the designs and the manufacturing process were also discussed. Students spent individual time in their classroom developing their designs. Designs were then displayed as a group and critiqued. The final submission was then completed and entries were sent through as a school pack.

Ridgehaven Primary School

Play Ground – Early Years Early Years students had special activities in the JP playground Early Years students created Rainbow Snakes after hearing the story. Teachers had a wet weather contingency ready just in case. They also commented on the usefulness of the Come Out 2007 Resource Pack for Teachers.

Play Ground – Primary Years Primary Years had a rotation of play activities such as skipping, marbles and hoops, hopscotch, continuous cricket, ball in stocking and playing on the Primary Play equipment. They were also involved in indoor activities such as junk sculpture, Mulga Bill’s bicycles (silhouette bicycles) Aboriginal Dreaming, where children wrote stories for an Australian Studies display.
