Presentation transcript:

You will be placed into groups to review the health triangle. How can balancing your health triangle lead to wellness ?

 Your class will be broken up into the appropriate number for four groups.  You will be given numerous pieces of paper that represent the different levels of an individual’s health.  Each group will receive health continuum chart and your group will be responsible to organize the different levels of health onto the continuum.

Free from aches and pains Moderate level of energy Optimal level of energy, feeling of wellbeing High Level of Health Premature Death Chronic Disorders Lack of energy, minor aches and pains Loss of Health and Wellness Improved Health and Wellness

 It is important for the students to understand that most people function below the midpoint of the continuum  people on the left side of the continuum usually do not take responsibility for maintaining their own health. Where does that leave us as Americans as far as our health?  People on the right side of the continuum usually exhibit a high degree of responsibility, discipline, and positive direction in life. They accept res ponsibility for maintaining their own health

 Label a piece of note paper with the “7 Lifestyle factors”  Number the paper 1 through 7.  You will be placed into 7 groups and each group will start at a different lifestyle factor card around the room.  On the teacher’s command, you will rotate clockwise until all 7 lifestyle factors are complete.  You must guess based on the picture what the lifestyle factor is.

refrain from smoking and using tobacco products get between 7-8 hours of sleep do minutes of nonstop vigorous activity a minimum of 3 times a week eat nutritious foods from the various food groups each day eat breakfast daily maintain your recommended weight STAY AWAY FROM HARMFUL SUBSTANCES. Such as: Alcohol and other drugs.

 Decision making skills and personal behaviors are directly related to preventable deaths. You must believe that there is some benefit for your health from practicing these habits. Many of the preventable deaths each year could have been ceased through practice of a few simple health habits. By not practicing these habits, problems will develop. Answer journal question #1 Make a list of problems that stem from not following the seven lifestyle factors.
