THREE REGIONS OF THE 13 COLONIES The states in the New England Colony are Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island The states in the Middle Colony are New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware The states in the Southern Colony are South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and Maryland

SLAVERY  This practice came to America because plantation owners needed workers for house work and field work.  The southern region depended on it the most because of their economic realities and large plantations.

FAMILY LIFE EEducation- In New England Colonies, children’s parents wanted them to learn about Christianity. Parents taught them how to read the Bible. In Middle Colonies, children were taught the teachings of just one religion. Students also learned other subjects so that they could go to college. In Southern Colonies, aged kids were taught at home for the most part. Girls didn’t go to school there. FFood- pumpkin gnocci, scallops of salmon, and bourbon balls.

SHELTER, FURNITURE, AND CLOTHES  Shelters- Poor people lived in dugout houses. Middle class people would live in a one or two room house. If you were rich, you would live in a large plantation.  Furniture in the thirteen colonies were very different from the furniture in present day. Furniture back then were dusty and ripped up. Present day furniture are new and improved.  Costume and Cloths- Men; wore wigs, banyans, and robes. Women; wore brunswicks, caps, and caracos.

TOOLS, PURPOSE, AND ENTERTAINMENT TTools- Hammer, screw, and gimlet. BBackground and Purpose- Blacksmith; the purpose is to make tools. Shoemaker; The purpose is to make shoes (leather). Brickmaker; The purpose is to make hundreds of bricks a day. CCrafts and Games- They played board games, puzzles, cards, and they walked on stilts. MMusic-In the colonies, they played fife, snare, and bass drums.

SOCIOECONOMIC REGIONS In the New England Colonies, fishing was most important. They also whaled a lot for money. In the Middle Colonies, it was largely agricultural with numerous kinds of crops. In the Southern Colonies, farming was important with food such as rice, indigo, and tobacco.

FOUNDING FATHERS Samuel Adams was the 4 th Governor of Massachusetts. Adams was also the 3 rd Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. George Washington was the first president of the United States of America. Alexander Hamilton served in the American Revolutionary War. Benjamin Franklin invented the lightning rod. The lightning rod prevented houses from catching on fire during a lightning storm.
