Looking back, while wading away (no current so it was safe to wade, but…, tears, concern…

This was the crest (about 8PM) Almost a half meter less than 1927 but about 2 meters more than any flood since then.

No shortage of mud!

Not quite everything is chaos That ladder is right where we left it! (& the mushrooms seem very happy)..and the weather couldn’t be better (in ’27 it froze. For the winter! How’d they do it?)

Okay. Now take everything out into the mud!

Skis too Why yes. Of course we still use them all. (why would you feel you had to ask!)

Strip the walls of the sheetrock and insulation Thank goodness for all the AMAZING people who showed up to help us and all our neighbors!

Start hauling away some of the rubbish Sadly, no pictures of the three other tractors that helped with this stuff.

…and washing what can be saved

NEXT We are scrubbing and disinfecting inside, we probably have to remove some floors, then we will heat to dry things out, then we can start reconstruction…, and, maybe, move ourselves back in to the upstairs, and eventually move stuff back in and reinhabit the downstairs!

Having to fill in paperwork during the heat of battle would be (to keep it polite) very unhelpful. Our zoning administrator is filling in all the forms herself. That’s huge.
