Careers (Grade 10) GLC 2O – Ms. Douwes “A+ for Personality”  Quick warm-up – what’s my personality?  Holland’s Six Personality Types  Personality Quiz  Group work  Reminder: stay on top of your reflections + HW/MSIP work

Personality Types  Psychologist John Holland’s theory: people who work in an environment that most closely matches their personality type are most likely to be satisfied and successful in their job  Six Personality Types: Doer, Thinker, Creator, Organizer, Persuader, Helper

Doer People in “doer” occupations often are interested in work that involves tools, drawings, machines, plants, animals etc. They enjoy the outdoors, athletic activity and hands-on learning.

Thinker People in thinker occupations often are interested in work that involves science and math, and enjoy developing creative methods for problem solving. They like to be precise and they enjoy learning, investigating, evaluating, and analyzing things.

Creator People in Creator occupations often are interested in work that is related to the creative arts, drama, music and all things imaginative. They have artistic abilities and like to work in unstructured situations.

Helper People in Helper occupations often enjoy working with and helping people. They are helpful, friendly and trustworthy.

Persuader People in Persuader occupations often are interested in situations involving sales, management and public speaking.

Organizer People in Organizer occupations often enjoy detail-oriented work in a structured setting.

 In your notebook:  Count up the number of “Yes” answers you gave under each of the categories of the personality quiz; enter these subtotals in your notebook.  Then answer:  Which personality type are you most like?  Which personality type are you next most like?  Which personality type are you least most like?

Brainstorming Session  Group work – join with students (2-4) who have the same dominant personality type that you do  Together, complete the following tasks:  Identify 5 people (famous or not) who share your dominant personality & describe their strengths and weaknesses  Brainstorm careers that would satisfy somebody with your dominant personality type  Present to class (time dependent)

HW/MSIP work:  Catch up on reflections
