3 The Holland Code What Is It? The Holland Code is a system (or instrument) developed by John Holland to help people discover what type of personality they are and what type of job in which they would be most happy. The Code is broken down into six broad personality types.

4 Holland Types R – Realistic I – Investigative A – Artistic S – Social E – Enterprising C- Conventional

5 Realistic (R) Some Examples Like to lift weights—strong physically Like to build things with tools Like to work outdoors Don’t really like crowds Don’t like to work in groups--quiet You like machines & sports

6 How About Enterprising (E) You like to talk and persuade Strong Leader Aggressive, popular, sociable Adventuresome, Ambitious You like money and material possessions Dislike science and systematic thinking

7 Conventional © Like to work with numbers People call you practical & efficient Don’t like to try new things Like things calm and in order Save money, buy conservatively Stable, controlled, dependable

8 Social (S) Sociable, responsible, humanistic, religious Like to work in groups Like to talk Like people Enjoy healing, developing, training, or enlightening others

9 Artistic Like art, music, drama, other creative interests Prefer free unstructured situations. You don’t like rules Impulsive, independent, risk taker Like small groups Sensitive & emotional

10 Take the Test Remember… The Holland test is a generalization It most likely will not be an exact fit It might help you discover where you can find occupational satisfaction Completing the survey might help you identify career area you would enjoy

11 What’s Your Code? You should have a combination of three letters. These are mine (Mrs. C’s = SAI) Example: #1 Social (S) #2 Artistic (A) #3 Investigative (I)
