Slide 2 Hack Saw Used to cut metal

Slide 3 Twist bit- Designed to drill holes in wood and metal. If you use it to drill metal, make sure to lubricate it with machine oil and cut with slower speed.

Slide 4 Slip-joint pliers Increases the grip upon a object The jaw size can be expanded by slipping the pivot into different positions.

Slide 5 C-clamp Good for small jobs and when holding objects in a localized area.

Slide 6 File Card Cleans debris from files and rasps.

Slide 7 Block Plane Used to smooth the surface of small pieces of wood.

Slide 8 Hand-screw clamp Clamps without marring. Perfect for odd-shaped assemblies; will even clamp round objects. Each jaw works independently, allowing the jaws to angle toward or away from each other.

Slide 9 Mallet Used to hammer without marring. The head is typically made of rubber or rawhide (leather).

Slide 10 Hand saw Used to cut straight lines in wood stock. A crosscut saw cuts across the grain of wood. A rip saw cuts with the grain of wood. Stock is material in its native form.

Slide 11 Sliding T-bevel Used for checking and transferring angles. The blade pivots and can be locked to match any angle.

Slide 12 File & Rasp Files are used to smooth the edge of wood or metal. A rasp shapes wood rapidly by removing larger amounts of material.

Slide 13 Claw hammer The most commonly used hammer. Curved claw provides leverage for pulling nails. The face may be flat, bell-shaped, or checkered. For most work, a 13 or 16-ounce head weight is appropriate.

Slide 14 Straight & Phillips head screwdriver Screwdrivers come in many different lengths, widths, and colors. The straight screwdriver is used to insert or remove slotted fasteners. The Phillips head screwdriver is used to insert or remove Phillips head fasteners.

Slide 15 Wood Chisel Used to cut grooves and/or slots in wood.

Slide 16 Combination square Used to check and layout 90° and 45° angles The handle slides on the blade so that it can be used as a depth gauge to mark equal distances. A spirit level in the handle can be used to check level and plumb.

Slide 17 Carpenter's level Used to check level and plumb. Digital models are also available. Standard lengths are 24" and 48".

Slide 18 Auger Bit Special bit used to drill holes in wood. It has a tang and is only used in a brace. This pyramid shaped end is called the tang.

Slide 19 Try square The most common woodworking square for laying out and checking 90° angles. It can be used to test a surface for levelness and squareness. Used most often to make lines across the face or edge of stock.

Slide 20 Long-nose or needle-nose pliers Used to hold a small object, especially in electrical work. Sometimes they have a wire cutter on the side for cutting small-gauge wire.

Slide 21 Nail set- Conceals the heads of finishing nails by driving them below the surface of the wood.

Slide 22 Center Punch Used to indent the surface of wood or metal to help a drill bit start drilling at the proper place.

Slide 23 Coping Saw Used to cut curves or irregular lines in wood.

Slide 24 Calipers For very accurate measurements or layouts. Calipers are available for outside and inside measurements. Outside Caliber Inside Caliber

Slide 25 Brace Bores larger holes in wood by hand. Special bits that have a “tang” on their end must be used in the brace.

Slide 26 Spade bit- Drills holes in wood only. The long point makes it easy to locate the hole. Feed the drill at a slow speed as it enters the wood. If you don’t use scrap wood as a backer board, it will leave a splintered exit hole.

Slide 27 Scratch awl Used instead of a pencil to make fine layout lines, especially on metal. It can also be used to make small holes for starting drill bits, nails, or screws in wood.

Slide 28 Backsaw A fine-tooth crosscut saw with a heavy metal band across the back to strengthen and stiffen the blade. It is used to make fine cuts and is often used in a miter box.

Slide 29 Bar Clamp Used to clamp wood edge to edge when gluing stock together.

Slide 30 Surform Tool Used to shape wood.

Slide 31 Spoke Shave Used to shape wood with rounded surfaces.

Slide 32 Carpenters Square Used to frame houses and layout roof rafters.
