1 “INNOVATIVE AND NON TRADITIONAL EDUCATIONAL FORMS IN METHODS IN PROMOTING ADULT HEALTH CULTURE” RESULTS OF THE QUESTIONNAIRE

2 General Information The total of six hundred people were interviewed; 70 percent of them are women; the age of the respondents varies from 18 to 65 years old;

3 General Information The educational background of the respondents is also diverse: university education – Lithuania, Poland; secondary/high school – Greece, the Czech Republic; vocational school – Italy;

4 Health culture all the respondents from different countries have similar knowledge about healthy lifestyle and the problems, which respondents face dealing with health issues, are alike; absolute majority (100 percent) of the respondents are interested in healthy lifestyle;

5 Health culture Most respondents define health as positive well being and absence of disease; Healthy lifestyle is characterised as healthy food, physical fitness (exercises), absence of harmful habits;

6 Health culture A substantial percentage feels that they know how to maintain their health and know that health can be lot by one’s behavior and choises.

7 Health knowledge They are generaly informed about healthy lifestyle from the media: newspapers, radio, television, the internet ;

8 Health knowledge There is a strong interest in healthy foods and mental and emotional health; However there seems to be a lack of interest in a healthy environment and prevention of harmful habits as well as physical activities.

9 Health knowledge Absolute majority of the answerers do not participate in any health educational events in their communities apart from Poland where 77 percent of the responders are engaged in health educational activities.

10 Health knowledge Lack of time has been indicated as the main obstacle which prevents people from involving in health educational events; Lack of information and financial problems are first runner-ups;

11 Health knowledge Most attractive forms of health education : tasting healthy food, sports events, dancing;

12 Health knowledge Respondents believe that schools, municipality or local authorities could organise such events.

13 Health knowledge Most acceptable types of training are : physical fitness/exercise, healthy eating and nutrition, weight management, emotional fitness.

14 Health knowledge Most attractive health education events are: practical training (healthy food preparation course), excursions, various sport events, dancing classes.

15 General Conclusion The concept of health is rather traditional. Absolute majority of the respondents are interested in healthy lifestyle and agree that health is influenced by our choises. People also understand the importance of daily care.

16 General Conclusion Most importantly, the majority of the respondents are not involved in any health education activities. Most of the respondents are stuffed with knowledge about leading a healthy lifestyle from mass media and they feel confident of their knowledge, however a significant amount of people believe that someone else should take care of their health. Non traditional (practical) methods of health education appeal to most of the respondents.

17 General Conclusion Finally, respondents emphasize the role of Municipality or local authority as all of them belong to local communities. Because of lack of time they can not afford to travel long distances, they prefer local facilities.

18 Recommendation Explore the needs of the residents of local community; Organize these health education events which respond to the needs of the residents; Search for non-traditional forms of action; Arrange more extensive and effective spread of information.
