Extreme close up of fingers, meant to give the audience a sense of unease and claustrophobia. As well as an extreme close up of a foot stepping on a pistol, this could represent a meaning of being trapped on Shutter Island with no means of escape. Point of view shot gives the audience a personal perspective of where the character is bringing us.

Mise En Scene The film is set on Shutter Island which is an asylum for the the criminally insane. Props include: a book, a chair in front of the fire, a boot on top of a pistol and someone lighting a match whilst holding a match box. The fact that the narrative is set on a criminally insane prison which can signify a sense of being trapped, and this is also used when there is a gun underneath a shoe.

Title The titles are written in capital sans serif fonts, with white and red writing (the contrast between innocence and blood).
