Have a Mission List your goals Surround yourself with proactive positive people who are willing to commit to the mission and goals that have been established Diversify your board i.e. Civilian employees, correction officers, state officers, try to reflect your membership

Be Flexible Network with other agencies and see how they are doing things Don’t reinvent the wheel, use other associations ideas if you think they will work for you Know your region president and remember he/she is a great resource

Network within your Communities NAACP Urban chamber of commerce Nevada black nurses association Church coalitions within your communities Sheriff Mayor Meet with the district attorney Use the media

Network within your Department Know your command staff Establish quarterly meetings with your Sheriff Establish a good working relationship with your recruiting department Work hand in hand with your African American recruitment counsel Network with other minority organizations
