2 “What we have to do…is find a way to celebrate our diversity and debate our differences without fracturing our communities.” Hillary Clinton

3 Dr. Becker’s 2010 State of the University Address We will recruit a student body that reflects the demographic profile of our state and nation, and will be the national model for retention and graduation of a diverse student body. GSU will be known for the quality and impact of its scholarship and research, and our faculty members will be recognized nationally and internationally as leaders in their fields. Atlanta will be recognized around the world as a major cultural center, and our programs in the arts will be integral to that achievement.

4 Georgia State University Diversity Strategic Plan What is the definition of Diversity at Georgia State?  Representation reflects the extent to which our students, staff, faculty, and administration mirror the populations from which we draw our talented and skilled university community.  Inclusion is based on the idea that our existing academic community reflects the experiences and perspectives of all diverse members in the context of scholarship, instruction, learning, employment, and governance; as well as the ability of diverse members of the academic community to express their values and viewpoints without fear of marginalization.

5 Georgia State University Diversity Strategic Plan  Engagement includes opportunities for intercultural interaction such as research, instruction, community outreach, and co- curricular activities.  Research will give priority to problem- focused projects that demonstrate successful interdisciplinary collaboration and address challenges facing our rapidly changing society specific to multi-cultural interests.
