Leadership Coach: Colin Collin is the primary Leadership Coach and liaison for other Leadership Coaches. If you have any questions about setting up meetings with your leadership coach you can contact Collin at

What is a Leadership Coach? Your designated Leadership Coach is the person who you will meet with twice throughout your time working towards your Leadership Preparation Certification. Your Leadership Coach meetings will be structured the following way: First meeting: mid-way through your workshop completion, to connect your current involvement to the skills you are developing throughout the REAL Workshops you have already taken part of. Second meeting: after you have completed all 10 workshops, you will meet to reflect on your growth and development and create and action plan to guide you forward in leadership opportunities and involvements.

How are the workshops chosen? Much research has been done on leadership theories and competency areas which enhance leadership in general. The workshop “topics” are designed to give students exposure to eight competency areas which are crucial to quality leadership. These have been based on the works of the following areas: The Social Change Model of Leadership Development Learning Reconsidered 2 The Council for the Advancement of Standards: Leadership Competencies

Can I choose my own Leadership Coach? Yes. If you have a relationship with a professional on campus whom you would like to serve as your leadership coach, you may ask them. The criteria is that they agree to meet with you at least twice, and use the materials provided by REAL to connect your learning to your involvement. You may ask the REAL Coordinator more about this option.

Does it cost anything to attend? No. This program is a student fee funded program, with very minimal costs due to the generosity and time of many faculty and staff across our campus.

What are the time requirements? Total hours : ~15 to receive the Leadership Preparation Certification Workshops are 60 minutes x 10 = ~10 hours Two Leadership Coach meetings = ~3 hours Orientation and Completion Quiz = ~1 hour OR Drop In to any workshop you like! Try it out depending on the topic and your interest!

Who can participate in the REAL Experience? STUDENTS! Students seeking involvement or a Leadership Preparation Certificate Student staff members reaching for management/leadership positions *LSC student staff: Make sure to check with your supervisor regarding compensation!

How do we know how far along we are in the completion process of our Leadership Preparation Certificate? Do you keep track of our activity? We require participants to sign in at each workshop they attend so we can record attendance. You will have access to your recorded progress through a Google Doc form.

When and where are the workshops? February 1st- April 20th, :00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. LSC 212; SLiCE Classroom (Across from the Info Desk)

I'm a senior graduating in May, can I fulfill a certificate in time? Yes. There are multiple opportunities each semester to complete each required workshop. The completion of the Leadership Preparation Certification just depends on how much time you want to put in.

What if I'm not involved on campus, can I still participate? Yes! This could be your first step in connecting with a staff member or other participants in which your interest has been peaked to get involved somewhere else in the community.

How do I apply? There is no application process, just drop by a workshop today!
