Mission and History Established in 1973 by National President Lillian Benbow, the ultimate goal of the National Commission of Arts and Letters has been to boldly advance the Black Experience through arts and letters and to ferret out the contributions of African American people of the past and lift them to public attention.

Mission and History Putting On The Ritz... A Special Events Planning Primer Statement of Intent Putting on the Ritz... was originally published in 2001.The intent was to provide a resource guide for Arts and Letters Committees within individual chapters to use in producing stellar events. National Committee members who have designed and implemented major events have detailed fundamental concepts integral to producing successful event production. This is a user-friendly document and will become an invaluable tool for all chapter Arts and Letters Committees.
