2 The Society Founding Premise: The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded to bring together qualified women educators serving in a broad spectrum of educational fields to pursue professional projects. Mission Statement: The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

4 Seven Purposes 1.To unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship 2.To honor women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education

5 Purposes 3.To advance the professional interest and position of women in education 4.To initiate, endorse, and support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and of women educators

6 Purposes 5.To endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to women educators form other countries. 6.To stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action

7 Purposes 7.To inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society The activities of each level of the Society implement the Purposes of the Society.

8 Membership Is by invitation only Represents a broad cross section of educational interests Qualifications –Professional preparation –3 or more years of experience as professional educator –Employed in educational work at time of election –Professional proficiency –Contributing member of community

9 Types of Membership Active Employed in Educational work 3+ years of experience Reserve Unable to participate--physical disability and/or geographical location Honorary Not eligible for active membership Notable service to education or women

10 Membership Responsibilities Personal commitment to the Society Active participation at all levels –Attendance, program participation, acceptance of leadership responsibilities Assistance at –Chapter meetings, conferences, workshops Payment of dues and fees Purchase of a keypin Support of the mission and purposes
