E ASTVIEW G IVES 2014 “A TTITUDE OF G RATITUDE ” Building Culture Action Team December 10, 2014

Intro from 4Cast

Moving from “Me to We” at the local level Importance and impact of initiating an act of kindness towards others There have been several International, National and Statewide issues that have required help (natural disasters, cancer awareness etc.) This time of year we are focusing our attention on a more local need for families right here in our own community

The Local Need-Dakota County Dakota County is the 4th largest poverty population in the state. 360 Communities: Rosemount Family Resource Center serves Apple Valley and Rosemount We serve approximately 500 individuals per month out of RFRC and another 500 individuals per month at our other local food shelf which is located at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church (both Rosemount and Apple Valley residents get served out of each location) as well as at Greenleaf Elementary. Total: 1000 Individuals per month over half are children. Over 50% of the Individuals/families served are employed. These are families in OUR community

Food Drive Specifics-Review Handout EASTVIEW GIVES CAMPAIGN GIVE2LIVE = $5 plus 5 items will = our goal Bring money or food items to your 1 st hour class between Dec Items to bring: Cash, Gift Cards (Target, Cub, Rainbow, Gas Cards) and any non-perishable food items, paper products and toiletries

School-wide Giving and Incentives Last year’s total was over: 16,000 (Dollars/Items) This year’s goal is: 18,000 (Dollars/Items/Service) INCENTIVES at Winterfest Pep Fest: – 6,000 Dollars/Items = Mr. Laufenburger Food Challenge with Math colleagues – 12,000 Dollars/Items =Mr. Wollersheim/Ms. Ostrom “Dancing with the Stars” – 18,000 Dollars/Items =Staff Dance by Ms. Padget – 20,000 Dollars/Items = Mr. Sharp shave his head

What if I can’t give $ or food? While there is a definite need for items and money, there is also the reality that not all of us will be able to give of money or food Instead of giving to reach a goal, we want to give for the sake of giving…..from “Me to We” If you are not able to give of money or food towards the school-wide goal you CAN give of your time, just have an adult sign off on your act of service

Brainstorm Ideas as a Class How can your class help us reach the school- wide goal? What will be your plan? How can you help remind each other along the way? Review the list of examples of what is needed most

You Can Start Bringing Food and Money Tomorrow (December 11) EASTVIEW GIVES

Distribution of Progress Reports We will continue through our progress reporting process – establishing and supporting the importance that our students: -understand themselves as learners -grow their abilities to realistically reflect on their progress -are able to develop a plan for their growth, own their learning, as an Eastview Scholar
