University of South Carolina Custodial Worker Tasks 1 Cleans commodes and urinals by using gloves, toilet bowl brush, cream clean( toilet cleaner) and hard scrubbing to remove stains from all surfaces. 2 Removes trash from resident halls by loading sacks into trash compactor or loading grey bins to take trash to nearest dumpster. 3 Cleans classroom blackboards (green and white boards) by using rags, water, all purpose cleaner, and alcohol (whiteboards). 4 Cleans stairs by mopping, using back pack vacuum cleaner and wiping surfaces with all purpose cleaner. 5 Empties trash cans in rest rooms, offices, classrooms, and any other areas by removing trash and liner, replacing liner in trash cans and placing sacks in bins or dumpsters. 6 Fills out paperwork such as work orders, safety data sheets, supply sheets, and request forms at required times to communicate needs and or completed work. 7 Operates buffers to polish floors (different sizes) by using appropriate pad and using proper techniques to control machine. 8 Waxes floors by applying wax on floor using mop to spread wax on floor to ensure wax is smooth and even by separating task into wall application and middle of floor (figure eight). 9 Cleans overhead and bathroom vents by using broom to knock down dust or wipes surface if accessible. 10 Cleans walls with all purpose cleaner and rags by wiping down surface. 11 Mops office floors by using mops, water, and cleaners to clean and rinse hard surface areas. 12 Pre treats carpeted areas with stain remover before vacuuming or steam cleaning carpet.
