The Bible is God’s Code of Judgment for Mankind Memorial Day reminds us of our soldiers who died serving this country in war to keep us free from our enemies. There are many similarities between the characteristics of the life of a soldier and that of a Christian in which he will be judged by a higher standard than himself. This morning we would ask you to examine your life by the Uniform Code of God’s Justice, the Bible This morning we would ask you to examine your life by the Uniform Code of God’s Justice, the Bible (John 12:48; Acts 17:11; 2 Cor. 13:5).

Soldiers Enlist to Serve their Country Here is an example of what a soldier promises when he enlists in the military, “I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign, and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations and the uniform code of military justice, so help me God.” You now belong to the United States of America.

Christians Enlist to Serve the Lord When we decided to obey the Lord’s commission to be baptized, we enlisted in the Lord’s army. When we decided to obey the Lord’s commission to be baptized, we enlisted in the Lord’s army. (Mark 16:15-16; 2 Timothy 2:4) Just as a soldier doesn’t belong to himself any longer but to his country to obey his President, our bodies belong to our Commander-in Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as a soldier doesn’t belong to himself any longer but to his country to obey his President, our bodies belong to our Commander-in Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 6:19-20; 2 Cor. 5:14-15; Ro. 12:1-2). Have you enlisted in the Lord’s army or are you still serving yourself?

Soldiers and Christians Learn to Obey Boot camp is designed to break down our dependence on self as a civilian so that we might learn to obey every command of our superiors so that we could be used in combat. As a Christian, we have volunteered to obey every command of the Lord As a Christian, we have volunteered to obey every command of the Lord (Mt. 28:19-20). There were 3,000 that chose to join the Lord’s army on Pentecost and they went to “daily boot camp” in order to learn the apostles doctrine and worship the Lord There were 3,000 that chose to join the Lord’s army on Pentecost and they went to “daily boot camp” in order to learn the apostles doctrine and worship the Lord (Acts 2:42, 47)

Soldiers and Christians Must Watch In the military, you have duty to watch out for the enemy. We must always be on the alert because our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking to devour our souls We must always be on the alert because our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking to devour our souls (1 Peter 5:8). Habakkuk stood guard and kept watch (Hab. 2:1) Are you watching and standing fast in the faith? Are you watching and standing fast in the faith? (1 Cor. 16:13; 1 Thess. 5:6; Eph. 6:18)

Soldiers and Christians Must Fight In the military, you must be willing to fight for your country. As Christians, we must fight the good fight of faith by casting down arguments that are raised up against the knowledge of God. As Christians, we must fight the good fight of faith by casting down arguments that are raised up against the knowledge of God. (1 Tim. 1:18; 6:12; 2 Cor. 10:3-6; Eph. 6:12) We must be willing to put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand firm against the devil’s schemes We must be willing to put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand firm against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:10ff). Are you using the sword of the Spirit to defend God’s word or retreating from it?

Soldiers and Christians Must Endure In the military, you must be willing to endure long hours, poor pay, loss of friends, and even the criticism of your countrymen. The apostle Paul said, “Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus” The apostle Paul said, “Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 2:3) If you are a faithful Christian, you will suffer for doing what is right If you are a faithful Christian, you will suffer for doing what is right (2 Tim 3:12; Mt. 5:10-12). Don’t grow weary in well doing by going AWOL but remember what Christ endured for you. (Gal. 6:7-10; Heb. 12:2-3)

Conclusion Soldiers and Christians enlist to serve. Soldiers and Christians enlist to serve. Soldiers and Christians learn to obey. Soldiers and Christians must watch. Soldiers and Christians must fight. Soldiers and Christians must endure. Soldiers and Christians must endure.

Conclusion Have you enlisted in the Lord’s army? If not, you have already lost the battle but there is still time and opportunity today to be saved Have you enlisted in the Lord’s army? If not, you have already lost the battle but there is still time and opportunity today to be saved (2 Corinthians 6:2). You must meet all the qualifications to be able to enlist in the military (age, height, weight, physical, test, US citizen, no felonies, not a single parent, etc.). Just as there are conditions to enlist in the military, there are requirements that the Lord gives. If you missed one of them, or did it for the wrong reason you do not qualify to be in the Lord’s army or receive the many blessings of enlistment including the forgiveness of sins.

Conclusion You must be willing to submit to the commands to hear, believe, repent, confess, and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins You must be willing to submit to the commands to hear (Romans 10:17), believe (John 8:24), repent (Luke 13:3), confess (Matthew 10:32), and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 22:16). Unlike the military, there is no honorable discharge or retirement until the day that we die. If we are faithful, the Lord has promised to be with us always and to give us a crown of life when we die If we are faithful, the Lord has promised to be with us always (Matt. 28:20) and to give us a crown of life when we die (Rev. 2:10).
