The Big Three Digital Photography Introduction 1 Instructor: Kenji Tachibana

M y Story: Most of my professional photography career was spent doing advertising work creating images under highly controlled studio environments. environments. I’m currently into drawing every-day objects and scenes with light to bring out their unique beauty. 1 The Big Three Digital Photography Introduction

Basic Camera Adjustments: 1.Brightness – adjust it using EC, exposure compensation. 2.Sharpness – adjust the focus using focus bracket [ ]. 3.Color – adjust it using the camera WB, white balance. The Big Three Digital Photography Introduction

White Balance: Set it to AUTO This is the easiest to deal with. For 99% of your shots, leave the WB set to full automatic. For most shots taken during daylight hours, it should comes out fine Adjustment 2Color Control

C amera settings: A.Exposure Meter: 1)Set it to ‘Matrix’ metering. 2)Not the ‘Center Weighted’ metering. 3)Use ‘Spot’ metering for special purposes. B.Exposure Mode: 1)Build confidence with your new camera. Set it to the snap-shot Auto for ‘quick start’. 2)Set it to Auto-P for better photographic control when you feel ready. 14 Instructor: Kenji Tachibana

S tory: Have one… Your story will control everything from exposure to composition. 15 Instructor: Kenji TachibanaExtra Stuff

C ommunication: Keep it simple I made this image with the classic story “Is the glass half full or half empty?” in mind. So far, the image is packed with a cup, water, background, and back lighting to draw the water. It’s a simple set up shot intended to show you exactly what you see. 16 Instructor: Kenji TachibanaExtra Stuff

P ack It: Make a specific point I added one more element which changed the question into an answer. The prop, water bottle, adds to the story in several ways. 1.It answers the question saying that the cup is now half full. 2.It also adds: o Vibrant blue color. o Pouring action. o Diagonal and liquid movements. o The bigger world suggested by the seeing only a small part of the prop. o It also implies that a person is pouring the water. 17 Instructor: Kenji TachibanaExtra Stuff
