How fibre transforms businesses Your logo here

Context for the presentation What has been the impact of fibre broadband where it has rolled out ? How has it helped businesses, particularly smaller businesses? What learning can we take to help market and up- sell more fibre broadband to business customers?

Key sources Superfast Cornwall evaluation final mid-term report EU & Superfast Cornwall with SERIO “Virtuous Circle of Connectivity” - SME benefits of Superfast Broadband report BT TSO & Plymouth University Both available at

Positive feedback for the “Virtuous Circle of Connectivity” report “This research has real international significance because it starts to vindicate what we’ve said all along - that fibre broadband will energise our economy, generate jobs, and save public money” “For both businesses and the communities they serve, there can be no better investment in our future than superfast broadband.” EU Commissioner, Neelie Kroes, responsible for “Digital Agenda”

Key take-outs from the insight Fibre is a clear enabler for business growth through greater agility and productivity The more connectivity and bandwidth, the more a business can do Fibre leads to increased adoption of cloud applications and more collaborative tasks There is still a need for wider awareness of the potential for fibre to transform business processes

Over 50% felt that fibre has enabled their business to grow 22% reported an increase in turnover 39% agreed that superfast broadband was enabling to develop new products and services 38% said that it had enabled them to generate new sales or contracts Fibre is a real enabler for business growth “As the business grows Superfast is the only real option which will support that, and is supporting it.” Transport customer

Businesses believe fibre has been a driver for growth and new ways of working

The more connectivity, the more a business can do 83% stated that it helped reduce time & money Do more simultaneously - 86% using multiple devices Do things faster ( and impress clients!) - 77% sending and receiving larger files Increased use of e-processes and systems Research found a chain of interdependent benefits of SFBB that have become so important to SMEs - they have become far more reliant on fibre connectivity than they were on regular broadband

Few had used Cloud services prior to the introduction of SFBB because of slow connectivity, but many had considered this ability as potentially transformative for business, hence it was a strong driver for adoption Fibre promotes the use of web conferencing for SMEs, provides increased and better collaboration opportunities across a wider field of expertise, a reduced need to travel, and is more time efficient Fibre leads to increased use of the cloud and collaboration tools “The backup, the backup is going to be big I think, it’s going to grow and grow, well, Cloud based applications generally. I’m using the Cloud now, it’s very good...” Fire & Flood restoration customer

Fibre creates the stimulus to do more

Education on what fibre can do and new business applications How digital skills are linked to making businesses more efficient and effective Specific areas such as web conferencing, VoIP, remote working and cloud data storage There is still the need for more awareness of fibre-enabled new ways of working

ICT has big impact on many SMEs from where they are now to what they could become Fibre = growing your business materially and operationally Impact on revenue, new product development, productivity and therefore competitiveness Using fibre as a lever-sale to other services – cloud, storage, security and VoIP Learning for us as wholesalers and service providers
