First Nation Student Success Program (FNSSP) Update

Future of the Program The First Nation Student Success Program is extended until March 2016 The component “Early Literacy” is not renewed The “notional amount” (funding level) is of $ 5,920,520. *See letter from Chris Rainer dated January 8

Future of the Program The “notional amount” (funding level) is of $ 5,920,520. Funding is conditional to the approval of the FNEC’s funding proposal (submitted on February 25, 2015). The submission process requires the letters of commitment from communities.

Early Literacy Funding background OCTOBER, 2012 Budget 2012 funding enhancements are now available for allocation for the fiscal year. Economic Action Plan 2012 committed $100 million over three years, in part, “to invest in First Nations education on reserve, including early literacy programming and other supports and services to First Nations schools and students”.

Early Literacy Funding background OCTOBER, 2012 On October 2, 2012, the Government announced that the investments for and will be implemented through the Strong Schools, Successful Students Initiative and will be administered through the Education Partnerships Program (EPP) and First Nation Student Success Program (FNSSP). The total funding available for the fiscal year will be distributed proportionally to all FNSSP recipients and, as a result, your organization is eligible to receive $1,119, The intended purpose of this funding is early literacy programming, but other eligible FNSSP activities will also be considered.

Early Literacy Funding background NOVEMBER 2012 Thank you for your proposal for Budget 2012 funding enhancements through the First Nation Student Success Program (FNSSP). This short is to confirm approval of $1,119,316 for fiscal year to undertake the activities described in your submission. Funding will be transferred to regional office shortly for processing.

FNSSP Regional Priorities To obtain recurrent funding in order to maintain essential CANO activities as well as success measures: Free Access Technical Support System Update Measures of success

FNSSP Regional Activities Maintain the team in place Regional services guaranteed and viable curriculum will continue Support the planning for better school program In-person Principals meeting in the summer Support participation to relevant conferences Summer Reading Camps: Support for training & resources (books and materials) Provide training and tools to collect and analyse student success data. Fierce Conversation workshop Survey TA’s role in student success, provide professional development to foster professional identities and engage in student success activities

FNSSP Guidelines Communities must: To proceed with evaluations in order to follow-up on school success. To proceed with “provincial” or “standardized” evaluations, and forward the number of success of Secondary 4 Math exams, as well as Secondary 5 French tests. To use a computerized management system for school attendances and report cards. To have a success plan established.

Procedures for processing projects Goals To improve speed process, as well as the filing of proposals and final reports. To reduce correspondence.
