C USTOMIZING Y OUR A VATAR This presentation explains how to change the appearance of your avatar in Second Life.

W HAT YOUR A VATAR C AN W EAR Body Parts Shape Skin Eyes Hair Clothing Attachments Necklaces Watches Bags Etc.

E DITING A PPEARANCE Click Me from menu at top of screen and then select My Appearance, or Right-click your avatar and select My Appearance

E DITING B ODY P ARTS From the appearance menu click either shape, skin, hair, or eyes. You can adjust these body parts by dragging the sliders to preview changes. Once you are satisfied with your changes, make sure you click save. If you want to start over, click revert.

E DITING A VATAR ’ S S HAPE Selecting the Shape tab allows you to alter your: Body – height, thickness, and body fat Head – head size, shape, structure, etc. Eyes – shape and appearance of eyes… not color Ears – size, angle, earlobes, etc. Nose – size, width, shape, nostrils, bridge, etc. Mouth – position, shape, lip fullness, etc. Chin- angle, shape, cleft, etc. Torso – muscles, length of arms, belly size, etc. Legs – muscles, length, knee angle, foot size, etc. Gender – female or male

E DITING A VATAR ’ S S KIN Selecting the Skin tab allows you to alter your: Skin color – pigment, ruddiness, and rainbow color Face detail – definition, freckles, wrinkles, etc. Makeup – lipstick, blush, eye shadow, nail polish, etc. Body Detail – definition and body freckles

E DITING A VATAR ’ S H AIR Selecting the Hair tab allows you to alter your: Hair color – white, rainbow, blonde, black, brown, red, etc. Hair style – volume, front, sides, back, length, etc. Eyebrows – size, density, height, arcs, and points Facial hair – thickness, sideburns, moustache, etc.

E DITING A VATAR ’ S E YES Selecting the Eyes tab allows you to alter your: Eye color Eye Lightness Iris – allows you to upload an image of your choosing

W HAT AM I W EARING ? Click the sidebar’s My Appearance tab (the last tab on the sidebar) and click Wearing tab. Here you can remove items by right-clicking: Any item of clothing and choosing Take Off, or Detach From Yourself if the item is attached

W EARING C LOTHES Select the sidebar’s My Inventory tab (the tab above My Appearance ). Here you can select My Outfits. These are the preloaded outfits in Second Life. After double-clicking My Outfits, you will see a list of sub folders which you can choose. For example: Female City Outfit or Male Party Outfit. After double clicking your preferred sub folder, you will see a description of items contained in the folder. For example: Female City Hair or Male Party Hair To wear an item, right-click it and select Wear or Wear as an Attachment Remember you may need to remove the item you are currently wearing first.

A LTERING P RELOADED O UTFITS If you are unhappy with your outfit, but do not wish to purchase additional items, you have the option of altering your outfit. Click Me from menu at top of screen and then select My Appearance. Then select the Clothing tab. You will see a list including: shirt, pants, shoes, jacket, etc. Click the item you wish to alter to see if you have the option of changing the color, texture, length, or size of that particular item of clothing. Here you even have to option of creating new items, which is not recommended as these items tend to look “painted” on.

P URCHASING C LOTHING In Second Life, you have the option to purchase clothing using Linden Dollars. Thanks to the MAC program, everyone will be given 500 Linden Dollars to use. To find clothing stores, you can search for clothing in the Search tab located at the top right of your screen. Your search can be as vague or as specific as you would like. To view the price of an item, roll over it slowly with your mouse. To purchase an item, right-click it and select Buy. Any item you purchase will be stored in your inventory.
