Miles Davis Miles Davis was an American trumpet player who changed the course of jazz improvisation. Miles lived from May 26, 1926 thru September 28, 1991 Miles’ mother was a blues piano player and wanted her son to learn the musical arts. His dad provided his son a trumpet.

Miles’ Early Years Miles began playing professionally by age 16. He was offered chances to tour nationally but his mother insisted he finish high school first.

After High School Miles moved to New York to attend The Julliard School of Music.The Julliard School of Music. Miles met his idol Charlie Parker soon after arriving in New York. Charlie Parker

Change of Direction Soon after meeting Parker, Miles dropped out of Julliard. He credits the school with learning music theory that helped him later. He began playing in night clubs with Parker and others and exploring a new style of jazz called BeBop.BeBop
