Business Services Business Services includes: human resources, information technology, and personal and contracted services businesses

Buying and Merchandising Buying and Merchandising includes: retail and wholesale businesses that provide consumer goods

Finance Finance includes: banks, credit unions, accounting, investments and other financial businesses.

Hospitality and Tourism Hospitality and Tourism: includes hotel, restaurants, and tourism-related businesses.

Team of 1-3 Creative Marketing  A research study that will improve the marketing activities of an individual company, a group of companies or the business community.

Entrepreneurship Promotion Project  Planning a campaign to educate members, the general public or an organized group about the opportunities available for becoming an entrepreneur. Team of 1-3

Financial Literacy Promotion Project  Plan and conduct a campaign to educate Parkway South chapter members and the general public or an organized group about the importance of financial literacy.  Team of 1 to 3

Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan  This event consists of creating a concept paper  Explain the opportunity that exists in the marketplace and how their innovation will meet the needs of the customer  Team of 1-3

Entrepreneurship –Growing Your Business Event  This event involves the idea generation and strategy development needed to grow an existing business.  Teams of 1-3

Professional Selling Event  20 minute oral presentation  100 item comprehensive test  Individual event  You will assume the role of a sales representative for a company that manufactures bicycle tires. A major bicycle manufacturer is taking meetings with tire manufacturers to hear their sales pitches to be the tire supplier to the company’s new entry level mountain bicycle.  100 question exam (score averaged for teams)

Hospitality & Tourism Professional Selling Event  20 minute oral presentation  100 item comprehensive test  Individual event  You are to assume the role of a tour operator on the Caribbean Island of St. Thomas. You have been asked to make a sales with the Cruise ship’s shore excursion manager to pitch your packages and price points.  100 question exam (score averaged for teams)

 Make a plan of action for what needs to be done with deadlines and team members responsible  Practice your presentation skills in front of peers and adults  Ask your English teacher to read your project for grammar and formatting  Carefully review guidelines for your chosen event and the evaluation forms in the DECA Guide located on the National Deca website Successful Project Tips

Preparing for DECA Competitive Events  Trophy winners at the State CDC are eligible to represent Missouri in competition at the International Career Development Conference.  Top 10 Finalists at International CDC are invited to a reception in Jefferson City in May. The Chapter Advisor, parents, and school administrators will also be invited to attend.
