16/09/ Open Day at CERN 16/10/04 General access rules No free access – zone off visits defined Shuttle Service obligatory Access to CERN sites less than 16 years only accompanied NO access to underground less than 6 years Access to underground less than 10 years an adult for each child. Maximum size of groups: 12 per guide Information of visitors concerning risks and behaviour

16/09/ Open Day at CERN 16/10/04 Vicinity of visit points The safety and access leathers to roofs are at CERN generally not protected as in public areas. To climb up is possible for everybody.

16/09/ Open Day at CERN 16/10/04 Cooling installations have protections but in some cases the space can be dangerous for children who want to look in.

16/09/ Open Day at CERN 16/10/04 At CERN exist many possibilities to climb on constructions or concrete blocks. That can cause the risk of fall.

16/09/ Open Day at CERN 16/10/04 Chemical hazards cryogenic risks are indicated and protected. But these protection measures are not sufficient against manipulations that can cause dangerous injuries The flaps to underground galleries are generally not closed by keys or other save measures.

16/09/ Open Day at CERN 16/10/04 Different risks…

16/09/ Open Day at CERN 16/10/04 Summery Absolute safety is not feasible Relative safety should be at maximum
