Vocabulary Lesson #7 The Land of Oz

Dampen (V.)  “Do not, I beg of you, dampen today’s sun with the showers of tomorrow.  Definition : to depress, discourage, or deaden; also, to moisten  The class dampened Mr. Scott’s day because they didn’t complete their work.

Dampen (V.) * Describe a time when somebody dampened your day. Explain the effect it had on you.

Sympathetic (Adj.) *”Nonsense!” said the Emperor – but in a kindly, sympathetic tone. *Definition: Having feelings of compassion or understanding. * When I see a friend upset, I try to lend her a sympathetic ear.
