Stave Vacuum Tool Tim WP4 Face to Face Liverpool, 13/11/14

Status All components manufactured for 3 tools Steel feet glued on to one CFRP face sheet – Issue with milling holes in face sheet mean that clearance holes for Oxford clamp-down were ill defined so steel spacers left off for now One set of brass inserts mounted onto aluminium jig – Metrology on-going – need to make sure that are all in a (reasonable) plane Next steps (once metrology OK) – Glue brass inserts onto face sheet – Add 10mm SQ section CFRP tubes for side close-outs and vacuum channels – Add honeycomb and FR4 spacers to tops of brass – Grind honeycomb & FR4 – Glue top CFRP face sheet & re-grind – Add final top plate, grind & add vacuum holes Completion of first jig estimated mid-December

Tool Qualification Measure flatness ‘free’ and clamped down Measure stiffness (just for interest) Trial assembly with ‘C’-channel and thermal foam jigs Trial stave assembly (at Oxford) – probably very early January?
