Content Area: Social Studies Grade Level: 2 nd Summary: The purpose of this instructional PowerPoint is to enlighten my students of the history of West Tennessee’s Reelfoot Lake. Learning Objective: After completing the PowerPoint, students will be able to portray the history of Reelfoot Lake in a creative project with 100% accuracy. Content Standard: 5.0 History involves people, events, and issues. Students will evaluate evidence to develop comparative and casual analyses, and to interpret primary sources. They will construct sound historical arguments and perspectives on which informed decisions in contemporary life can be based. Accomplishment: Understand the place of historical events in the context of past, present, and future. d. Comprehend that physical and human characteristics of communities change over time.

Remember, you are not limited to these examples. Be creative!

 In this lesson, students will have learned the history and legend of Reelfoot Lake. By completing this PowerPoint, students should have a better understanding of how people and landforms can change over time. They will also be able to see how a natural disaster can affect people and their community.  They will be able to easily compare Reelfoot Lake’s past to it’s present.
