A footprint is an impression of the foot on a surface whether it is from an animal or human.
Scientists can learn from an animal’s footprint what its feet looked like, how big it might have been, and whether it walked upright or on four legs.

The archeologist found an imprint of a dinosaur's foot that was embedded or set in river mud.
