a) On I.S.A.T. Extended Response b) In Language Arts Class c) Answering a question from a textbook d) All of the above

 All of the above, or course! You can use the R.A.T. Strategy on ANY question where you have to write a “long” answer!

 REPHRASE the question

“Sharon left her bike at school because…”

 What does the “A” in “R.A.T.” mean?

 ANSWER the question in your own words.

1. Sharon left her bike at school because she got a ride home. 2. She left her bike at school because she got a ride home. Her mom called and said she wouldn’t be able to pick her up, so she called her brother instead. 3. Sharon left her bike at school because she got a ride home with her brother, Tim. Tim filled in because Sharon’s mom, Lori, had to work late at the hospital that day. Why is answer #3 the BEST answer to the question?

Answer #3 is the best because…  It uses specific nouns (Sharon, Tim, Lori)  It gives more detail than answer #1.

 What does “T” stand for in “R.A.T.” ?”

 add “TEXT SUPPORT” from the story.

a.) According to the text, Sharon was upset that she couldn’t share her good news with her mother. b.) According to the text, “Sharon was upset that she couldn’t share the good news with her mother.” c.)”According to the text, Sharon was upset that she could’t share the good news with her mother.”

 Answer “b”  …the quotation marks only go around the sentence you ‘borrow’ from the text.  According to the text, “Sharon was upset that she couldn’t share the good news with her mother.”

 What does the “bowtie” mean at the end of ‘R.A.T.?’

 ‘Wrap it up’ in your own words.

1. Add your own opinion and thoughts on the subject 2. If you can, relate it to something in your life. 3. Add a closing sentence.

 Are you ready to show what you know?

 YES!  Get ready to read about the directors of “Paranormal Activity!”Paranormal Activity!
