 Public safety and homeland security organizations have access to and know how to use geospatial technology for preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery.

 To advance the public safety and homeland security communities in data interoperability, information sharing, and connectivity through geospatial technology, in support of local and national preparedness goals.

 NAPSG Alliance was formed in 2005  Steering committee created Foundation in 2008  Alliance involves multiple public safety sectors ◦ Law, fire, emergency mgt, health, dispatch, etc.

National Practitioner Network 3,000+ local, tribal, state, Federal Regional Leadership Teams (Currently 9 Regions) Board of Directors Senior Executive Leadership Council

 1,136 public safety practitioners reached for in-person education & training on GIS  This education and training was held regionally and covered 23 states  Our national practitioner network defines annual training priorities: ◦ Interdisciplinary regional workshops on information sharing ◦ Robust virtual collaboration & resource portal ◦ Technical Assistance to develop & implement regional information sharing projects

 4 Interdisciplinary & multi-state workshops complete  410+ practitioners participated  Participants represented 11 different states  82% represented local, county, tribal, or state government  85% reported that they gained a clear vision for the next steps to implement new GIS capabilities in their agencies.

 Hosted 12 fire/ems workshops in ◦ 6 regions, 1 workshop held in each region each year  662 practitioners participated in workshops  Highlight best practices in GIS for fire & EMS  Identify common challenges & capability gaps  Facilitated by Regional Leadership Teams ◦ Chief Officers, Firefighters, EMS, Fire GIS Managers

 6 train-the-trainer sessions completed in 2010  385 practitioners participated  Participants represented 15 states  50% represented local emergency responders  Funded under 2009 Grant from US Dept. of Homeland Security Grant ◦ aborate/training-materials aborate/training-materials

 Web-based education on homeland security data  185 state-level public safety practitioners  Held at request of US DHS and US National Geospatial Intelligence Agency  Capabilities & Readiness Assessment Tool (CARAT)  Prototype tool to help local agencies understand what they know & don’t know about starting or expanding a GIS  GIS Standard Operating Guidance for Multi-Agency Coordination  A template to support national GIS standards, improving communication during emergency operations  Social Media for Outreach & Awareness  Twitter  You Tube -
