The introduction

Section 1: Where is Cleethorpes/What is Cleethorpes like? A thorough description of Cleethorpes in terms of its: – Specific location in the UK – Surrounding towns and cities – Its specific site factors – Name of county – Physical geography – rivers, relief, coastline In paragraphs

Section 1: Where is Cleethorpes/What is Cleethorpes like? Describe what the town of Cleethorpes is like in terms of: – History of the town – Tourism?! – Population – Main roads/transport connections – how do these help with tourism? – Facilities/services

A3 – 3 way map 1 st Map: On the A3 sheet I have given is a map of the UK. You should mark on key urban areas e.g Hull, London, Manchester and Cleethorpes 2 nd Map: A regional map of the Cleethorpes area showing Leeds down to Lincoln 3 rd Map: A local scale map showing Cleethorpes in more detail You must have a title: 3-way map clearly locating Cleethorpes at a national, regional and local scale You must have a scale bar for each map

Aims and Objectives The aim is to answer the hypothesis The objectives are the predictions

Hypothesis and predictions This is your hypothesis: The people living in the south of Cleethorpes will have a higher quality of life than those in the north. The hypothesis will be made up of a number of predictions (10)

Example predictions Hypothesis: The people living in the south of Cleethorpes will have a higher quality of life than those in the north. – In the south there will be more detached houses – In the south most people will own their own houses – In the south there will be less vandalism than in the north

In the north there will be more terraced housing In the south most houses will 3 bedrooms or more In the north, very few houses will garages Most people in the south will have holidays abroad

Your own question Most people in central will have cars aged between 3-6 In the north there will be very little open space

What is quality of life? How can we measure quality of life? – You need to state what quality of life is – You need to state what criteria you are going to use to determine the areas quality of life

The theory Your coursework will be based on a settlement so you will need to talk about the theories you have learnt about in this unit. There are various land use zones recognised in MEDC settlements: 1.Central Business District (CBD) 2.Zone of transition (Industry) 3.Inner city (Lower class residential) 4.Inner suburbs (Middle class residential) 5.Outer suburbs (rural-urban fringe)

I suggest you lay it out like this... Land use zoneCharacteristicsExamples in Cleethorpes CBDYou must give 5 characteristics for each urban zone. This includes types of housing, facilities and amenities You will be given a photocopy of an OS map. You will have to mark on the location of the zones on map. Write down the grid reference in this box and the name of the road

The models You need a diagram of the Burges and Hoyt models. You need to write down description of both models

Property Research There are five main housing types in the Greater Grimsby area – Detached – Semi-detached – Terraced – Bungalows – Flats For each type of housing you have a picture, a description of the housing type and two examples of where you might find the different types of roads in Cleethorpes – road names and prices

Cleethorpes Coordinates survey You will need an OS map of Cleethorpes For each of the three wards you will look at in Cleethorpes you will need to identify examples of: – Amenities – Open space – Modern housing – Terraced housing – Old part of Cleethorpes

Cleethorpes Coordinates survey Land useNorthCentralSouth AmenitiesEnter the example e.g. School and the 6 figure grid reference e.g Open space Modern housing Terraced housing Old part of Cleethorpes
