Freshman Guidance High School Information Graduation Plan for Class of 2017

Grade Classification Freshman 9 th grade Sophomore10 th grade Junior11 th grade Senior12 th grade Freshmen students with 5 or 5.5 credits will move to GHS at the end of the year.

Rank and G.P.A. – Calculated at the end of 9 th grade year Top 10% receive guaranteed admissions to Texas state universities except University of Texas at Austin (Top 8%) Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) will be calculated on a 4.0 scale for all students. Note: Pre-AP classes receive an additional 1.0 weighting for G.P.A. (5.0 scale) and AP and DC classes receive an additional 2.0 weighting (6.0 scale).

Subject Load CNG students will select 7 classes each term

Subject Load? Can high school students take advanced courses in all 4 core classes? Answer is “yes”, however careful consideration must be given for the additional commitment. A student could take a combination of PAP, AP, or DC Suggestion: Keep it balanced, be aware of any other extra-curricular commitments.

Graduation Plans Requirements Recommended Distinguished Achievement Science44 Three required credits and one credit must be Biology. The remaining two credits must be chosen from the following areas. No more than one credit from each area. --Biology --Chemistry --Physics Students take Biology, Chemistry, and Physics plus an additional science of their choice. Distinguished Achievement* Requirements: - A student must achieve any combination of four of the following: Original Research/Project: - Judged by a panel of professionals in the field that is the focus of the project; or - Conducted under the direction of mentor(s) and reported to an appropriate audience; and - Related to the required curriculum (related to the TEKS) - May not be used for more than two of the four advanced measures Test Data: - A score of 3 or above on The College Board Advanced Placement examination; - A score on the PSAT that qualifies a student for recognition as a Commended Scholar or higher by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation; as part of the National Hispanic Scholar Program of the College Board; or as part of the National Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Negro Students of the NMSQT. The PSAT score may count as only one advanced measure regardless of the number of honors received by the student. College Courses: - A grade of 3.0 or higher on courses that count for college credit, including tech prep programs. Students graduating on the Distinguished Achievement Program must meet Level III: Advanced Performance (postsecondary readiness) on English III and Algebra II STAAR EOC. Students graduating on the Recommended Achievement Program must meet Level II: Satisfactory Performance (postsecondary readiness) on English III and Algebra II STAAR EOC.

Achieve Texas Programs of Study Programs of Study (POS) have been created for each of the 16 Career Clusters. The programs of study reflect current occupations and represent all 79 POS as cited on Granbury ISD will offer several career clusters next year. POS are designed for students but can also be used with administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents. POS contain lots of helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. The POS are based upon the Recommended High School Graduation Plan and can easily be adapted for the Distinguished Achievement High School Graduation Plan.

Pre-Registration Parent Meeting at CNG tonight at 6 pm. Freshmen counselors from CNGC will meet with 8 th grade students again on February 11 th (AMS) or February 12 th (GMS) through your class to update your career interest, four year plans, and select courses. CNG Counselors will travel to AMS (Feb. 25 th -26 th ) and GMS (Feb. 27 th -28 th ) to meet students and enter pre-registration choices with students.
