How to Create an MLA citation for a web document....

Search Engine vs. Web Document… Search engines such as… Ask Google Dogpile Bing Yahoo help you find web documents! They are not web documents!

Web Documents…. Web documents give you information about your topic. They are created by different sources. Some are more credible than others…..com documents are created by commercial sources.org documents are created by organizations.edu documents are created by educational institutions.gov documents are created by governmental agencies

Credible Websites…  are posted by authors with expertise about the topic! The authors are published in their fields and/or associated with credible organizations.  look professional and are kept current! The links are updated regularly and are in working order.  cite the sources of their information with complete bibliographies.

To Create a MLA citation for a web document: Author (Last name, First name)____________ Title of web page _______________________ Title of web site ________________________ Date Published or Last Revised ____________ Publishing Organization __________________ Date Retrieved ________________________ Web URL ______________________________

Sometimes, you will not find ALL of the information about your web document, but you should try to find everything that you can! The purpose of the citation is to enable another person to find the same information that you found.
